OKNO would like to invite you for the next installment of Symbiosis. In a dramatic break with tradition, the performance will not consist of blue faces behind a screen, however fond we still are of those.
Gamila steers clear of both traditional laptop music and academic electro-acoustics. Instead we get a dynamic performance of the young international band in a mix of instruments and electronics.
We also screen the film Effraction by Gamila-members Steindor Kristinsson and Ofer Smilansky.

Gamila live
Gamila's music is a combination of electronic and acoustic sounds that lead the listener to sonic trips among rhythms and melodies. Gamila is constantly experimenting with new musical practices during improvised recording sessions and performances. Improvisation brings new outcomes that open more routes to explore for the band. This experimental approach comes from a shared concern that arises from an in depth perception of one another's presence and way of expressing. When they play together, the musicians try first to "breathe together" in order to get to a very accurate level of listening to one another.
This intuitive communication brings the experiments to an emotional level that reaches the audience. Gamila wants to explore different ways of expression, to have an interdisciplinary approach of art, and to be able to always reshape itself to perform in various environments.

Effraction
The film Effraction is a collaboration between two artists who want to create a new way to answer our need for entertainment in the age of information over flow. Their work aims at opening new possiblities for the imagination whereas today's music, film and commercials tend to restrain it. The two artists introduce a new approach of time organization based on durations: they want to break up time by exploring the borders between durations and by playing with our perception of time.
