Tools for Timon (EXP Framework)
Tools for Timon will develop a performance-machine that enables artists to create and perform and audiences to experience complex stories, grounded in VR. It enables curators and producers to engage diverse locations in new ways and for larger audiences.
Tools for Timon, which we developed within the European Media and Immersion Lab (EMIL), led to the development of the Embodied XR Performance Framework, or EXP Framework.
It was an important step for us and I was dreaming of having our own framework for experimental performances for a while already.
I designed EXP from the ground up to be a creative and out-of-the-box, but also with quality of life functions, a template project and a particularly cool archive function called CIRCA (Crew InteRaCtive Archive).
EMIL allowed us to have a full dev team, consisting of Vivian Bolsée, Lawrence Kudria, Balthazar de Tonnac, Haryo Sukmawanto and Salomé Kahn, which was not only effective, but also great fun.
CREW aims to develop and release the Embodied XR Performance Framework providing creators and developers a starting point for their own ambitious XR performances. This framework will be flexible, allowing for experiences to be made for spaces as small as a living room to large multi-space exhibition areas. The border between the digital and physical will be blurred, with for example live motion captured actors and physical interaction with tracked objects
And so we did, code here https://github.com/CREW-Brussels/EXP
